landscapers mowing, trimming, edging
in the 100 degree broiling florida heat & humidity
sunhats, long sleeves and long pants
counting down the days until it cools down
but ya gotta do whacha gotta do - one must live musn’t one?
roofers on top of buildings
scrapers, hot tar, nailing, shingles
one slip or turned ankle and off ya go
lunch in a hot pick up truck - out of the sun at least
ya gotta do whatcha gotta do
sign man spinning his sign around
mid-day sun little shadow on the ground
need a cell phone, new house, lunch special???
pity the ones wearing a costume, can’t see good, can’t breathe good
costume stinks but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do
road crew pushing dirt around
blocking traffic - yellow arrows flashing
stop, slow...hey don’t go!
car horns honking get outta the way
the sun keeps beating the tom -tom mercilessly
maybe the clouds will turn dark blue
lightning bolts will drop from the sky
BOOM! BOOM-BOOM BOOM BOOM rumble rumble
afternoon storms that’s all for today it seems
no work no pay
these are real workers putting in real work in the real outdoors
in the real summer, not the weekend go to the beach kind
doubtful anybody dreamed about these gigs growing up
that’s life - that’s what it is
ya gotta do whatcha gotta do
