Irregular time signatures are time
signatures that do not indicate duple, triple, or quadruple time…the most
common being quintuple (five beats in a bar, e.g. 5/4) such as in the song
‘Take Five’ by Dave Brubeck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmDDOFXSgAs or septuple (seven beats in a bar)…this is quite different
than the normal 4/4 or 3/4 pattern of most songs…a little bit out of step and
out of the ordinary…it’s not what most people are used to, therefore most
people have trouble embracing it…free spirits in life often have irregular time
signatures…they aren’t quite in rhythm with the rest of the world…and that’s
ok…the old saying is if one marches out of step, perhaps he hears his own
tune…or something like that...one that follows the path of Tao often marches to
their own tune, their own time…and sometimes people don’t understand…but just
because they don’t understand doesn’t make you the confused one.
