I had a friend who was
always comparing himself to everybody else and all he saw was his shortcomings
and failures that kept flashing in his eyes like a poison neon sign. Funny how
he never compared himself to people who had it worse than him, people dying in
hospitals, junkies on the street, dirty, desperate souls who can’t get by like
you without some fix. Then there’s the old people having pain and suffering,
missing a loved one, missing the good times, the old days, the days of wine and
roses, the days of running, the days of dreams that were possible. Their golden
years have turned into not so golden tears. Yeah, things could be better but
they can always be worse; you think you got it bad? I told him “There’s
millions who got it worse than you so shut up.”
