‘Ships that pass in the
night, and speak to each other in passing, only a signal shown, and a distant
voice in the darkness; So on the ocean of life, we pass and speak one another,
only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence’. This was written
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. This is true of course. Most people come and go
out of our lives without making a lasting impression. The ship is seen and then
disappears into the horizon. Even ones that make an impression fade out.
Whatever happened to them? Whatever happened to us? Maybe it just got too
inconvenient. Maybe we got tired and we just want to crash for a while
someplace in the dark. They are like the flower that quietly drifts into the
sea, farther and farther out until it cannot be seen anymore.
