It has been said that there
are old sailors and bold sailors, but there are no old bold sailors. Of course,
there’s the time for chance, a shot in the dark, betting on the longshot and
once in a great while the longshot may come in. You might avoid the big waves
here and there but sooner or later you’ll find yourself in them. Taking foolish
chances is for fools. The wise sailor weighs the options, the risks, and then
makes a wise decision based on facts, not one based on folly.
