Symbolism holds great
power. Burn a national flag or throw it on the ground and you will outrage
many. Yet, what is this flag? Colored cloth. Many things are symbolic of one
thing or another. A wedding ring is symbolic in the sense that it means a
person is married and should be true to the one they have married. However no
wedding ring has prevented someone from seeking an affair with another person.
The symbolism is lost, ignored. The ring is easily slipped into a pocket or
purse. It holds only intrinsic power and that power is easily brushed off
unlike that of some superhero. The Dao isn’t really symbolic of anything yet it
symbolizes all things. Its power cannot be ignored or dismissed. Those who run
contrary to the Dao will soon be run over by it. It cannot be defeated.
