When you take a drink
from the spring, thank the source. When you sit down to eat, thank the food. Be
grateful for all the wonderful things there are. Mother Earth provides for us,
takes care of us. All too often, our thanks are polluting the skies, poisoning
the rivers, and eradicating the forests. How unfortunate this is…yet through it
all, the cycle remains. Madeleine Kunin said that when all the world appears to
be in a tumult, and nature itself is feeling the assault of climate change, the
seasons retain their essential rhythm. Yes, fall gives us a premonition of
winter, but then, winter, will be forced to relent, once again, to the new
beginnings of soft greens, longer light, and the sweet air of spring.
