Those claiming
to have laid eyes on the creature describe it as extremely tall and covered in
short hair, the Scottish version of a yeti or Sasquatch. Others report an
unseen presence that inspires dread. Also known as Sasquatch, Bigfoot is
supposedly a creature that lives in the snowy mountainous regions of the United
States and Canada. It may be identified as a gorilla at first, however, its
walking posture can be compared to that of a man’s. Many people may be aware of
Sasquatch due to the creature being featured in the very funny Jack’s Link
jerky commercials, but there are those that do believe that it does exist. When
British explorer J. Norman Collie visited the mountain in 1925, he claimed that
he’d been wandering about when he heard monstrous footsteps. As he described
it, “[As] the eerie crunch, crunch sounded behind me, I was seized with terror
and took to my heels, staggering blindly among the boulders for four or five
miles.” Several theories have been put forth to explain this occurrence. The
most scientific is that the creature is a “Brocken spectre,” that is, an
optical illusion caused by a combination of the sun’s angle, fog, and the
person’s own shadow to create the appearance of a great, looming beast
overhead. Well if you can believe that attempt at scientific explanation, you
can certainly believe in the existence of such a creature.
