Once something gets out
of the bottle, it may be difficult or impossible to catch; or even if you do
catch it, you can’t get it back in the bottle. A caged bird may fly far if
given the chance to do so. Some things like innocence can never be captured
again. Its place is taken by knowledge, wisdom, and perhaps cynicism. When it’s
gone, it’s gone. Of course there comes a time when we cannot be innocent or
naïve about things, but it seems to me that this kind of worldliness keeps coming at an earlier age
these days and we are all poorer for it.
