John Locke commented
that parents wonder why the streams are bitter, when they themselves have
poisoned the fountain. We may look at the coming generations with skepticism,
even scorn but who are their parents? Man rails against the evil in the world,
but who is the perpetrator of such evil? Man himself. We look to place the
blame on something for our suspicion, our ills, our general unhappiness with
our lives, but when we point the finger of blame, we should be standing in
front of a mirror.
