It
has been said that to extend your life by a year take one less bite each meal.
This philosophy can also be applied to other things. it is the greedy man who
gets his hand caught in the proverbial cookie jar. Take only what you need,
leave some for others. There is enough for everyone if we share. Hoarding is an
act of the desperate, the ignorant, and the foolish. As the joke goes, you cannot
have everything and if you did, where would you put it? Gluttony in any form is
distasteful. It is said in verse 71 of the Tao Te Ching that a sage knows his
limitations. Knowing this, he does not cross the line, extend his reach too
far, or try to be what he is not.
