The
great director Orson Welles once said that we are born alone, we live alone, we
die alone and that it is only through our love and friendship can we create the
illusion for the moment that we're not alone. There comes a time when all of us
must walk the plank and we do so alone. The plunge into the cold, dark sea can
be frightening. The things that we have held on to are out of our reach or have
no value now. We are beyond help. It comes rarely on our terms. Yet, some do
not fear this fate. The wise know that it is inevitable. Perhaps it is through
this wisdom that they can truly learn to live.
