new student asked “Master Li, is it true that the Dao is a bottomless well?”
Master Li told him, “Yes, it is true. I would not recommend falling into it.”
The student thought for a moment and then said, “If I fell in it, would I not
be immersed in the Dao and be one with it?” Master Li said, “No, you would
drown in it. One can drown in the Dao just as easy as one can drown in the
ocean if you don’t know what you are doing.”
