A grain of sand on the beach is indistinguishable from all others. To belong to the common crowd is to belong to the crowd that is not one with all things. To attempt to stand out from this crowd is an exercise in vanity. There is a middle ground between these two extremes. The crowning achievement is to be one with the universe, although it is not an achievement at all. The middle ground runs through the heart of the universe. We seek to detach ourselves from all illusions and by doing so, find ourselves one with the detached Dao. That is how we separate ourselves, yet remain invisible.
