In my last post, I mentioned my great-grandfather was a Cossack in Russia during the time of the Russian Revolution. He was on the side of the Czar early on, but later switched his allegiances (as was common in that conflict) and fought for the Red Partisans. I have a picture of him looking quite distinguished on his horse. As followers of the Tao, we should always seek peace and not to contend, but when left with no alternative, we must fight skillfully and dispassionately. We should not rejoice in victory, nor fear defeat.
